Friday the 13th is typically a day for flash tattoos, bad luck, and binge-watching horror movies. However, for thousands of San Diegans, this June’s Friday the 13th was reserved for Long Hair, Long Life, a co-headline tour with none other than Briston Maroney and Peach Pit.
These long-haired musicians lit up Gallagher Square with bright lights and vibrant energy. Throughout the show, we connected in moments of celebration; a celebration of Pride Month, a celebration of music, and a celebration of love- yes, I’m talking about the coolest on-stage proposal (she said yes!).
During the show, we were transported into the past- learning about how Peach Pit began with a whistle solo back in high school, and how young Neil Smith always dreamed of coming to California.
While some of the audience gathered at the rail, many opted to picnic their way through the show, lounging along the hillsides within Gallagher Square. Although- no matter where you ended up, new releases from “JIMMY” and “Magpie (Expansion Pack)” echoed in your ears.
Both artists concluded with a tug at our heart strings, playing fan favorites such as “Freakin’ Out On the Interstate” and “Tommy’s Party”. It’s safe to say Long Hair, Long Life was by far San Diego’s most memorable Friday the 13th.
